Alright. Today, I am going to do it. I’m going to talk about one of the biggest taboos in the fashion world–wearing heels to class.
Now, personally I don’t own enough heeled shoes to frequently do this, but do I think it’s just plain wrong to wear heels to class? Absolutely not. And here’s why.
If another person decides to wear six-inch platforms on campus one day, then more power to them. You go Glen Coco! My mindset is: if what someone else does doesn’t directly affect me or anyone else in a negative way, let them do them! That’s simply commendable to me to be able to rock heels up and down the hills of campus. Fashion should be a form of self-expression, so who are we to judge others for wearing what they want? Freedom of speech? Freedom of dress! (Within self-respectable reason of course)
After transitioning from almost two decades of school uniforms and dress codes to college where what you can wear knows no bounds, I’ve learned that you just need to put to bed all those thoughts of “oh what will people think of me if I wear this” or “I really want to wear this but don’t know how people will react”. If you feel happy wearing it, do it. The only caveat being to make sure you’re wearing it for yourself and in respect towards yourself. Picking out your outfit for the day should be fun not stressful! So the next time you feel like judging someone for wearing heels to class, think about it as if it were the other way around and they were judging you for wearing something you chose to wear yourself. You just do you. And don’t forget to work those heels girl!
