Kat Reviews the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick (Vampira)

Alright. I’m going to be completely honest with you. I never, ever used to be a lipstick girl. For the simple reason that I always struggled with chapped lips due to my dry skin condition. Counterintuitively, I have also always been an avid fan of the matte dark red lip trend. So, after countless fruitless trips to Sephora wondering if I should just take my chances and buy a higher end lipstick that’s more likely to promise more moisturizing effects, I finally made an executive decision to purchase the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Vampira. Don’t worry I did my fair amount of research, swatched it in the store, and asked the Sephora employees their thoughts. Little did I know, I had picked up a true cult favorite beauty product!

Let me tell you. This lipstick seriously took me by surprise. It goes on super creamy and buttery (or as buttery as a matte lipstick can be), and I’m able to get a smooth, matte finish easily with a few coats. My lips don’t end up feeling chapped or dry while wearing it. The Studded Kiss Lipstick’s staying power is strong in my opinion (unless you’re going to be eating or drinking something without a straw). I did find myself having to reapply and touch-up several times throughout the day, but its nothing short of what normal beauty enthusiasts do on the regular.

In short, this lipstick has started my own internal lipstick revolution. I feel so much more compelled now to expand my sad, minuscule lipstick collection and explore other colors of the lipstick world. I find myself loving to pair this vampy red lip with grunge outfits. It just adds that perfect cherry-on-top touch.
**Note: The lipstick goes on much darker (especially with several coats) than how it appears in the tube. Refer to the picture below for how it looks on!

Review : Skinfood Acai Berry Mask

“A wash-off mask with a delightful jelly-like texture, making it easy to spread all over face. Packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, Amazon Acai Berry intensely hydrates skin from deep within to combat premature skin aging and its accompanying symptoms. Apply a generous amount of Acai Berry Mask on cleansed skin, leave on for 5 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Recommended for dry and normal skin types” (Skinfood).

Pros

  • Brightening
  • Deep moisturizing
  • Leaves skin feeling supple and bouncy
  • Shrank my pores
  • Quick 5-minute mask
  • Exfoliating bits mixed into mask
  • Cute packaging
  • Evened out my complexion

Cons

  • ????
Rating : 10/10

I truly love this mask. I couldn’t even think of any cons for it because I was so happy with the results. My skin has still been facing the aftereffects of my sleepless finals week, but after using this mask, it left my skin looking smooth and bright and much more awake. My skin has also been facing dry patches and just a general lack of moisture in general which this mask helped to fix as well. The consistency is somewhat of a thicker gel with little exfoliating bits that I wasn’t quite expecting because it didn’t explicitly describe in the product description. It takes a thorough wash with lukewarm water to really get the mask off but it’s truly worth it. I would definitely recommend this to people with sensitive, dry skin who tend to get enlarged pores and skin that loses its brightness very easily. And the best part about it is that it only takes about 5 minutes and then voila!

Review: Tony Moly Cottony Essence Mask in Wine

While I was on vacation in Hawaii a couple months ago, I randomly stumbled upon a Tony Moly store that was right outside the restaurant that I was eating at. I was so eager to go since there was no Tony Moly store near where I live. I picked up an smokey eye eyeshadow trio, but, of course, no Korean skincare store visit is complete without some free samples! For some reason, my skin has been feeling so dry and lifeless lately, so the store assistant gave me their Cottony Essence Mask in Wine to try out.

The description of the mask says it is an
Irritation-free sheet mask made of 100% pure cotton that locks in essential nutrients on your face for a lasting hydration effect. Containing Wine extract that boosts elasticity and vitality on fatigued skin.” (Tony Moly).

Here’s a list of the pros and cons I found upon wearing the mask :
Pros
  • Leaves skin feeling rejuvenated and more elastic
  • 100% pure cotton sheet feels gentle on skin and really soaked up and contained a lot of the product
  • Irritation-free

Cons
  • The mask definitely emits a strong wine smell
  • There’s a slight sting upon wearing it
  • Not very moisturizing/doesn’t have that “lasting hydration effect”
Rating : 6/10

Overall, I wouldn’t really recommend this mask if you’re on the hunt for a total moisturizing sheet mask. My skin tends to be highly sensitive so if you have sensitive skin be careful, but my skin didn’t get irritated by this mask so it’s probably okay for the most part. The only benefit I really noticed after taking it off was that my skin felt and looked more awake, so if your skin needs some rejuvenation and you can handle a little sting on your face then this mask might benefit you more!
